For remedial therapy, (corrective or maintenance) a full postural assessment will be done, as well as joint Range of Movement (ROM) tests, muscle strength and ROM tests and any special tests for specific injuries, as required. A deep tissue massage will then be performed, if the injury is not in the acute stage, using various techniques (such as effleurage, frictions and pettrisage) and modalities (such as heat treatment, electric percussors, etc). Trigger or pressure pointing techniques may be used as well as stretches, including Muscle Energy Technique stretches (METs) or Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF).
Strengthening and stretching exercises will be advised for the client to do on a daily basis, to aid recovery and maintain strength & ROM.
Sports Therapy can also be done pre or post event, for warm up and cool down before and after a big event, such as a marathon, athletics meet, football match, etc.
Injuries can be treated as they happen and strapping and taping can be applied to allow the athlete to continue in the event if the injury does not prohibit it.
A clinic session may last from 30-60 minutes, although an initial session may be up to 90 minutes due to the consultation. Pre-event is normally 10 minutes and post -event approximately 20.
Please bring a pair of shorts with you for the assessment.
